Vintage Kutani Sake Cup Pin Cushion: Chirimen Silk, Natural Stone Bead, Japanese Ochoko

Obviously I'm a sewer and every time we are in Japan I see this style of pin cushion so this time I brought back lots of tea and sake cups (and of course the fabric) to make them myself. This kutani-ware sake cap is from Kyoto's Toji Temple market and it has a lovely flower design. The cup has a fabulous crackle glaze and gold accents. The inside is kimono chirimen silk, from the hakkake. The weave of the silk is perfect for pins and the orange matches the flowers perfectly. I made the petals using a shiny gold cord and finished it with a natural stone bead. It measures about 2 1/4" across and about 2 3/4" tall (although I have the cushion sticking out a bit and it's wedged in there). I couldn't bring myself to glue it in place so it's totally repositionable. If you want me to glue it before I ship it I can but I liked that it was removable. There may be slight variations in your pincushion as I have the supplies to make 5 but no two sewing processes and stones will be the same. It will be very similar. :) I have lots of other Japanese items in my shop and have the supplies to make another 20 pin cushions so there should be more in my shop.
