Nishijin Clutch Orange Obi Kiss Lock Bag Purse Gold Embroidery Clutch Japanese Silk OOAK 1/1

This bag is a unique, one-of-a-kind wearable art piece. Handcrafted from an authentic, upcycled Japanese silk handwoven obi with gold and silver threads, purchased (by me! :)) in the Nishijin area of Kyoto. This is from a fukuro obi; the most formal obi type and would have most likely been worn to a wedding. Finished with a handsewn gold kiss lock frame, I have added a heavy removable gold chain to make it a shoulder bag (or it's long enough for cross body). It also includes a purse charm of a gold tassel and gold tone filigree beads. The inside and outside came from the same obi. The outside is a geometric design with sakura triangles between them and the inside is a monochrome color pattern on a heavy weight rinzu silk. Both silks are of heavy weight and the embroidered outside has a lining fabric to protect the embroidery. The kiss lock frame is hand sewn with gold metallic cord. The core is a 6mm foam to give the purse a sold form and it stand tall and proud on it's four little feet. Inside is a pocket with made with the outer fabric. The purse is approximately 8.5" x 8.5" x 4.5". The handle folds down and the purse strap can tuck inside (or be removed and have the clasps tucked in). There is also a removable chain handle. I included a photo and video of the original obi. This purse came from the 3-7 rows of the pattern. The purse, from obi deconstruction to pattern creation, is entirely handmade by my husband and I and this is the reason we opened this shop- to produce our own unique purse line and save these gorgeous fabrics and Japanese traditions. Every bag will be unique; we'll never make a second one of the same fabrics in the same style again. We are happy to take custom requests as well, let us know what you are looking for!
