Japanese Kiss Lock Phone Purse, Upcycled Kimono Yukata, Lined Clasp Bag

I made this bag using fabrics I got at Toji Temple in Kyoto. The outside is a cotton yukata fabric with traditional Japanese symbols of baskets, scrolls and water in blues with a bit of silver and gold running through the design. The inside is lined with a navy blue patterned silk kimono fabric. In a common Japanese style, the more expensive fabric is on the inside. I took the kimono apart myself; it had a tear in the lining and now it has a new life. It has a medium-weight soft interfacing and a pocket inside the perfectly holds credit cards. I bought this closure because it perfectly fits a large iphone through the opening without being too big and it screws on, making it durable. This bag is a functional wearable art piece. I have more of these fabrics but every design on the yukata is unique so there will never be two the same. The strap can be tucked in the purse and is removable. I made the strap myself. It also has a charm- an omamori from a Japanese shrine (I got several different ones at a Uji Shrine) providing blessings and academic success. It is a pocket but you aren't meant to open it so the blessings stay in. I added some beads to help the blessings stay in. The charm is removable. The purse is 7.5" x 6.5" x 1.5".
